Melis Bürsin was born in Istanbul, Turkey and grew up living in over seven different countries spanning three continents. This experience has had an immense effect on her life and how she views the photographic process. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from Maryland Institute College of Art, she and her partner received a traveling grant to go and photograph in Turkey where Melis continues to photograph.
Melis has continued to photograph as a way of discovering her surroundings through the photographic frame.
Her work has been shown in solo and group shows throughout the country. Her professional experience ranges from the Smithsonian American History Museum in their photo archives department to various galleries in Chicago. She believes that editing a series of photographs for an exhibition gives the viewer another insight when engaging with images.
Melis is excited to be apart of CPC's gallery and looks forward to engaging CPC with the local art and photography communities in Chicago.
