After School Matters Darkroom Photography is an apprentice program in the arts where 20 young adults work closely with practicing artists, learning valuable professional skills while producing traditional Black & White prints.

After School Matters Darkroom Photography is an art production program fostering professionalism and self-reliance. Teens build effective communication skills via creative exploration of community, family, nature, self-reflection, and politics. The program focuses on first establishing a safe professional work environment for each teen, and then concentrates that energy into the production of traditional B/W prints. We help teens develop a sensitivity to detail and fine tune their creative problem solving skills while building a democratic environment for community growth.

All prints were created in a traditional darkroom setting. Apprentices used 35mm film and cameras, developed their own negatives and produced their own prints using enlargers and chemicals baths. No digital elements were used in the printmaking process.
