Classes
Beginning and Basic Classes
CPC offers classes to suit many levels of experience, from the absolute beginner to accomplished photographers who are seeking new learning avenues.
For the beginner, there are Fundamentals of Digital Photography and Fundamentals of Film Photography. Both provide you with an introduction to the basic operation of a 35mm single lens reflex (SLR) camera. You'll learn the principles and the subtleties of exposure and the elements of good composition.
If this is your first visit to CPC and you've already taken a class similar to Fundamentals of Photography, you may want to consider Fundamentals of Lighting. This class teaches students to take complete control of lighting to create traditional, practical lighting scenarios in a studio environment.
If you're thinking about taking up digital photography, sign up
for our one-day
Digital Boot Camp, which runs monthly. Digital Boot Camp
introduces students to the basic operation of a digital camera
(DSLR). It's not even necessary for you to own a digital camera
yet — we'll provide you with one for the workshop.
Finally, if you just want to take better pictures with your point
and shoot camera, sign up for our
Digital Point and Shoot class.
Intermediate Classes
Intermediate Digital Photography and Intermediate Film Photography are open to graduates of Fundamentals of Photography. Intermediate Digital Photography is a highly technical, detailed class that delves into the specifics of how a digital camera works and how to obtain precise exposure and color rendition when printing. Intermediate Film Photography further explores the subtleties of correct exposure and introduces paper grades and filters.
Studio Portrait Photography is intended for students with
some previous experience in photography. Concepts of aperture,
shutter speed and other basics should be mastered prior to
enrolling. Lighting is only one aspect of creating portraits.
Weekly shooting assignments address different technical
variables. Class time is used to examine the technical,
aesthetic, and other aspects of portraiture.
Advanced Classes
If you have taken Fundamentals of Photography and are looking for
ways to expand your knowledge and creativity, we have topics
covering the
History of Photography,
Street Photography,
Photojournalism, building
Your Portfolio and
Creative Concepts. Your possibilities are endless!
Specialty Classes
We also offer several specialty classes at various times throughout the year, including Location Lighting (Flash), Image Transfer (including emulsion transfers onto a variety of different media, including handmade paper, canvas and wood) and Matting (covering the basics of how to mat and display your artwork).
Free Basic Camera Workshops
If you have a new camera and would like to learn how to use it, or you need a refresher, come to a FREE Basic Camera Operation. Scheduled periodically throughout the year, the workshops are open to all.
Registration Policies
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Registration may be made online, by mail or in person at CPC during office hours. Fees must be paid in full and in advance.
Refunds are not available, except when a class is cancelled.
