“The elements of a subject that speak to us are often scattered and can't be captured in one photo; we don't have the right to force them together, and to stage them would be cheating... which brings us to the need for photojournalism.” - Henri Cartier-Bresson
In Photojournalism, you'll explore current photojournalism trends and practices. The fundamental principles of making “news-worthy” photographs - from feature photos to hard news - are covered.
You will produce photographs that are technically competent, aesthetically interesting, and conceptually challenging. You will be encouraged to make picture stories with social relevance that may change attitudes or affect society in some way. Most importantly, you will learn how to see, how to tell a story, and how to use the transforming power of photography to communicate in visual journalistic terms.
This class includes a weekly lab beginning the first week, so students should be prepared to attend CPC twice each week. Students will print on Epson Premium Luster paper.
This is for digital or film photographers who have a working knowledge of their camera. Prior photography experience preferred, not required.
