You asked for more variety and we've got it!
CPC has teamed with established, top photographers and educators in the photography industry to bring you new, exciting classes and workshops, with topics covering everything from Lightroom to Street Photography to Darkroom Printing. It's the most comprehensive program around – take a look and see for yourself!
History of Photography
Stieglitz, Arbus, Leibovitz, Moholy-Nagy, Callahan – Photographers who have influenced the way we look at images and the way we create our own images. This class will explore the people, events and subjects that have influenced photography in 20th Century and beyond. You will explore and compare the works of a variety of artists and practitioners, examine how historical events have impacted photographic practice, and explore the relationship between photography and the world.
Darkroom Printing
Long for those old darkroom days? Or have you always wondered what it was like to see an image emerge rather than appear instantly? Bring your 35mm or 120 negatives to class and receive step-by-step instruction on how to make black & white prints. This is a great way to start working in our public black & white darkroom, or to refresh your skills and start making your own prints.
Photojournalism
"The elements of a subject that speak to us are often scattered and can't be captured in one photo; we don't have the right to force them together, and to stage them would be cheating... which brings us to the need for photojournalism.” - Henri Cartier-Bresson
You will learn “to see”...to create picture stories with social relevance...and to communicate effectively through the images you create. You might create a photo story that will impact attitudes or affect change. Your “news-worthy” photographs may even make the Chicago Tribune.
Street Photography
Grab your camera, put on your walking shoes and join us in this 7-week adventure to discover hidden Chicago. Denise Keim, CPC's new Program Director and experienced street photographer, will lead you in this adventure and introduce you to the work of other street photographers from Henri Cartier-Bresson to Elliot Erwitt. This is for digital or film photographers who have taken CPC's Fundamentals and Intermediate/Advanced Photography classes.
Your Portfolio
This class is for the advanced photographer ready to create and present a portfolio. It covers all aspects of fine art portfolio presentation, including editing and sequencing images, the creation of an artist's statement and how to approach galleries and prospective clients. The main focus is on the photographer's personal and professional direction.
Lightroom 1
Lightroom is Adobe's image management and enhancement software designed specifically for photographers. This class gives you hands-on experience that will enhance your image processing and gain efficiences that surpass a Photoshop-only based workflow. No prior experience with Lightroom is necessary.
Lightroom – One-Day Intensive
This one-day workshop is a crash-course in using this powerful photo processing tool. Among other things, you'll learn how to use collections, enhance images in under 15 seconds and set up your file structure properly.
Lightroom 2
Coming in Spring 2010 – stay tuned for details!
