Fundamentals of Digital Photography
Fundamentals of Digital Photography introduces students to the basic operations of a Digital SLR camera. You will learn how your camera works, the principles and subtleties of exposure, shooting in RAW format, composition, as well as editing and printing in Adobe Lightroom. Weekly critiques open discussions on topics such as composition, selecting subject matter, and quality of images. Start creating the photographs that you see!
This 7 week class is offered on weekends, weekdays, and weeknights.
Intermediate Digital Photography
March 1, 2012–April 12, 2012
At the core of Intermediate Digital Photography is distinguishing the “creation” of a photograph as opposed to the “taking” of a photograph. The Intermediate class builds on the foundation presented in the Fundamentals of Digital class. Where the Fundamentals class presents a firm understanding of the camera, it’s use and photographic elements, Intermediate extends that understanding and moves into finer detail as well as pushes you to expand your artistic vision.
Class material covers the following:
- Camera, monitor and printer calibration
- Camera to digital workflow
- Detailed review of light
- A deeper understanding of exposure and white balance use and techniques
- Compositional elements
- Introduction to flash modifiers including flash lab and an introduction to portrait lighting
- Review of Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
- Various add-on software and workflow techniques, including archiving and the use of software to expand and extend your photographic vision
Each week, students will be given homework that will be critiqued on a weekly basis.

Photoshop For Photographers
February 29, 2012–April 11, 2012
Photoshop is the preeminent photo and graphic editing tool in the digital industry. Learn how to enhance and combine images to make digital masterpieces. You will learn advanced editing techniques using layers, masks and much more. From making a panorama using multiple images to getting flawless skin, this class will help you understand the fine details in photo editing.
This is for digital photographers who have a working knowledge of their camera. Please bring your own camera RAW files to the first class.
Prior photography experience is preferred but not required.
Lightroom for Photographers
This 7-week class will demonstrate the importance of file organization within the Lightroom 3 software program. You will get a first-hand experience of how to set up your folder structure properly, which will make missing images a thing of the past. Find out how to integrate your workflow with Lightroom and study the Library module and its various preferences that will make your daily usage of the software more effective. Then, through a hands-on approach with control group images in mini-sessions, learn how to perform digital magic in the Development module where you will get creative ideas on how to speed up your workflow and take your image processing to new heights.
Topics covered will include: the creative use of collections, image enhancement in under 15 seconds, image retouching utilizing the various localize editing tools such as a skin softener, eyes enhancer, and blemishes retouching tools. Practice quick adjustments using the Hue – Saturation – Luminance slider and make instant slideshows branded with your logo.

Advanced Photography Visual Rewards
This 5 week course discusses advanced issues in black & white film and digital photography are presented and explored as creative tools. Students further develop conceptual approaches to image creation, cultivate an understanding of the relationship of photography to culture and learn to speak critically of their own work, the work of their peers, as well as the work of other artists. Students participate in critical and theoretical study of significant historic and contemporary photographers.
