Digital Photography Boot Camp

Digital Photography Boot Camp is a crash course that introduces students to the basic operation of a digital single lens reflex camera (DSLR) or a camera with an interchangeable lens. You don’t need any previous experience whatsoever – it’s a workshop meant for beginners.

During the first half of the class you’ll learn how to operate a digital SLR camera to get the results that you want. There will be lectures and short shooting assignments both inside the CPC and and outside, so you‘ll have the opportunity to become very familiar with camera operation. After lunch, you’ll spend some time in our digital lab learning how to publish your work and produce top quality prints from our top of the line printers. You will also learn composition and how to control the quality of available light to get beautifully lit portraits.

If you do have a digital SLR camera, please bring it with you along with a card reader or your camera’s USB cable. You’ll also want to bring the user manual if you have it. If you don’t have the user manual, don’t worry – we’ll work with you so that you fully understand how to get great results from your camera.

Please bring a pen and notebook with you to class. There is a lot to get through in one day, so you’ll want to take plenty of notes.

At the end of the day you will go home with a new understanding of digital photography and at least two 9″ x 6″ high quality prints that you shot and printed.

Photoshop Boot Camp

You love your digital camera. You love the photos you take with it – travel shots, family and friends, artistic scenes. You want to take the next step and add a ‘professional’ finish to your images and you don’t want to spend months learning how to do it.

Learn the basics of Photoshop in this one day introduction for photographers. The class will focus on the use of masking for maximum control over global and local tonal and color adjustments, and it will simplify the use of Channels. It will cover basic color theory and color management, as well as the resolution and resizing of photos. Compositing concepts will be discussed as they relate to masking. By the time you leave, you’ll have the skills to retouch and enhance your images to give them that final professional gloss.

Please bring some digital images to work on during the Boot Camp. We prefer the digital images are in RAW format but JPEGs will work too if they are at a high resolution (at least 1200 pixels or higher). You will also need a pen and notebook to take notes during class.
